Palworld 1.0 Breeding Changes: What's Different
Palworld 1.0 reworked breeding. See which old combos changed, the 26 pals you can't cross-breed, how Mutation works and what the four new cakes do.
Palworld left Early Access on July 10, 2026 with update 1.100.427, and breeding was one of the biggest changes. Pocketpair reworked the whole combination table so strong pals arrive later in the game, added a new Mutation mechanic, and introduced four new cakes. If your breeding chart predates 1.0, a lot of it is now wrong.
What Changed in Palworld 1.0 Breeding
The official 1.0 patch notes list these breeding changes:
- The combination table was reworked. Pocketpair reviewed every pairing so that powerful pals are harder to get early.
- Mutation was added. Breeding now has a small chance of producing a stronger pal than the normal result.
- Four new cakes change what an egg can roll, from better stats to two eggs at once.
- Active skill inheritance changed. A child now picks its inherited active skills at random from the three skills equipped on its parents.
- Incubation is faster. Egg incubation time was halved in newly created Normal and Hard worlds.
1.0 also added 72 pals: 47 new species and 25 variants.
How the Egg Is Decided
The basic rule did not change. Every pal has a hidden breeding power, and a lower number means a rarer pal. Lamball sits at 3050, Anubis at 480 and Jetragon at 70.
For most pairs, the game averages the two parents' breeding power and hatches the pal whose own number is closest to that average. A list of special combinations overrides the average, and two parents of the same species always hatch that species. Which parent is male or female only matters for one pair: a female Katress with a male Wixen gives Katress Ignis, and the reverse gives Wixen Noct.
1.0 changed the numbers and the special list behind that rule, which is why the same two parents can now hatch something different.
Old Combos That No Longer Work
These pairs were widely shared during Early Access. Here is what they hatch in 1.0:
| Parents | Early Access guides | Palworld 1.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Penking + Bushi | Anubis | Sibelyx |
| Grizzbolt + Relaxaurus | Orserk | Reptyro |
| Mossanda + Rayhound | Grizzbolt | Lullu |
| Relaxaurus + Sparkit | Relaxaurus Lux | Relaxaurus Lux (unchanged) |
Anubis is still easy to plan for. 234 parent pairs hatch it in 1.0, and the Anubis breeding guide lists the easiest ones.
Pals You Can No Longer Cross-Breed
For returning players, this is the big one: 26 pals can now only be bred from two of their own species. No pair of different pals hatches them. They include Grizzbolt, Orserk, Shadowbeak, Lyleen, Faleris, Jetragon, Frostallion, Paladius and Necromus.
To get more of these, you need a male and a female of that pal first. They still work as parents for other pals, so keep them. The guides for Orserk, Grizzbolt and Shadowbeak list what each one breeds into.
Mutation: The New Breeding Mechanic
According to the patch notes, a mutated egg hatches a pal with higher stats and a unique passive skill. The chance of a mutation is low.
Guides that track 1.0 breeding, such as palbreedcalc.com, report that a mutation does not change which species hatches. Plan the pair the normal way and treat mutation as a bonus.
The Four New Cakes
The patch notes describe four new cakes for the Breeding Farm:
| Cake | Effect |
|---|---|
| Mushroom Cake | Slightly raises the chance of higher stats |
| Vegetable Cake | Produces two eggs at once |
| Deluxe Vegetable Cake | Raises the chance of a mutation and makes stat growth more likely |
| Special Cake | Raises the chance of inheriting several passive skills from the parents |
None of them change which pal the pair hatches.
How to Plan Breeding in 1.0
- Check every pair against 1.0 data. The Palworld breeding calculator uses the table extracted from the 1.0 game files, so old charts and videos can't mislead you.
- Look for same-species-only pals first. If your target is one of the 26, no mix of different parents will work. You need a male and a female of it.
- Set active skills before you breed. Children now inherit from the three skills equipped on each parent, so equip the ones you want passed on.
- Pick the right cake for the goal. Use the Vegetable Cake to double eggs while you fish for passives, and the Deluxe Vegetable Cake when you want mutations.
- Start a new world for faster eggs. The halved incubation time applies to newly created Normal and Hard worlds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Palworld 1.0 change breeding combos?
Yes. Pocketpair reworked the whole table, so many Early Access combos now hatch a different pal. Penking + Bushi, for example, gives Sibelyx instead of Anubis.
Can you still breed Grizzbolt and Orserk?
Only from two of their own species. In 1.0 no pair of different pals hatches Grizzbolt or Orserk, along with 24 other pals.
Do old saves get the faster incubation?
The patch notes only apply the halved incubation time to newly created Normal and Hard worlds.
