How Many Days Until Eid al-Fitr?
When is Eid al-Fitr?
Eid al-Fitr is the first day of Shawwal, the month after Ramadan, and is confirmed by the sighting of the new moon.
Eid al-Fitr, the 'festival of breaking the fast', marks the end of Ramadan. Muslims attend Eid prayers, give zakat al-fitr to the poor, wear new clothes, and visit family. In many countries it's a public holiday of two to four days. Dates shown are expected dates and can move by a day.
Eid al-Fitr dates by year

How Eid al-Fitr is celebrated
The day begins with a special prayer, usually held in large open spaces or mosques. In Pakistan and India, people prepare sheer khurma, and children receive gifts of money called Eidi. Women often apply henna on Chaand Raat, the night before.
Because the date depends on the moon, many countries confirm the holiday only the evening before, so travel plans often build in a spare day.
