The Lahore Resolution
The resolution was passed at a session of the All-India Muslim League in Lahore, presided over by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, on March 23, 1940. It called for independent states for the Muslim-majority regions of British India.
Minar-e-Pakistan stands where the resolution was passed, in what is now Greater Iqbal Park. Civil awards announced the previous August 14 are presented on this day.
Planning time off around Pakistan Day
Pakistan Day 2026 falls on a Monday, giving a three-day weekend wherever it's a day off. Roads, flights and hotels tend to be busier around those dates, so book early.
Pakistan Day 2027 falls on a Tuesday. Taking the Monday before off as well turns it into a four-day break for one day of leave.
