Palm Sunday customs
Churches bless palm branches and often hold a procession. Where palms don't grow, other branches are used instead, such as willow in Poland and Russia, where the day is known as Willow Sunday.
Many people fold the blessed palms into crosses and keep them for the year. Some churches burn them the following year to make the ashes used on Ash Wednesday.
