How Many Days Until Chinese New Year?
When is Chinese New Year?
Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice, between January 21 and February 20.
Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, starts the lunar year and each year is linked to one of 12 zodiac animals. Celebrations last 15 days and end with the Lantern Festival. It sets off the largest annual human migration on Earth as people travel home.

Chinese New Year customs
Families clean their homes before the new year to sweep away bad luck, then hold a reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. Red envelopes of money, called hongbao, are given to children, and red decorations are hung for good fortune.
The holiday travel period, known as Chunyun, sees billions of passenger trips in about 40 days. It's also celebrated widely in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam (as Tết) and South Korea (as Seollal).
