Mother's Day in the US was made official in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson after a campaign by Anna Jarvis. Many countries, including Canada, Australia, India, and Pakistan, use the same Sunday. The UK celebrates Mothering Sunday three weeks before Easter.

Mother's Day around the world
Anna Jarvis started the campaign for Mother's Day in honour of her own mother, but later fought against the holiday because she felt card and flower sellers had commercialised it.
Dates vary by country: the UK and Ireland mark Mothering Sunday in March or April, many Arab countries celebrate on March 21, and Mexico on May 10. Restaurants are often fully booked, so reserve early.
